I used one to lock the zippers of my bag together and the other with the longer cable to lock my bag to my beach chair. While I'm aware that if someone really wanted to get into my bag, they could use a large knife to cut the bag, but I felt this was good protection against casual "drive by theft" by other cruise guests (who do not have knives on them). The lock was easy to use, easy for others to see and setting my combination was super easy too. I would recommend these for this use or for use as a luggage lock.
