I am using a Microsoft 4000 one right now, and it has to be replaced.** A: I've owned and used both keyboards , and I have compared the two keyboards in terms of noise below. Comparing the two levels of noise is difficult to do, because the quality of the noise (and the touch/feel) is different. Setting aside the quality of the noise and focusing on the total 'amount' of noise, it is a close call. Without using a sound level meter and running an experiment, I would venture to estimate that the K860 is comparatively slightly less noisy--albeit with a different quality of noise. - The MS 4000 has a longer keystroke distance. The key well is deeper, so the distance a key travels in a keystroke is comparatively (to the K860) longer/deeper--because of this the MS 4000 tends to have more of a clickty-clack noise, and I hear more noise on the upstroke of a key as it clacks back into place (after being pressed down). - The K860 has a comparatively more shallow key well, so the touch to the strike is comparatively quicker and faster. I hear more more noise at the end of the downstroke as the key meets the end of its range of motion, but the sound and feel is padded. On the upstroke, there is comparatively (to the MS 4000) less noise. Note: in part, the degree to which the keyboard makes noise for each user is dependent on how hard one 'strikes' the keys when typing. My girlfriend also uses K860, and her natural keystroke strike is harder than mine--so her keyboard noise is louder than mine. Overall, I think that most folks would find the K860 to be emit less noise overall and to be slightly quieter. Worth mentioning: Even though your question is about noise, I thought it was worth mentioning that the slope of just the keyboard itself is different than the MS 4000. Also, the slope from the palm pad to the keyboard is different as well (and the palm pad cannot be detached from the K860 keyboard). They keys on the K860 are (comparatively to the MS4000) slightly smaller in size and slightly closer together, so the target area for each key is also (comparatively) a bit smaller as well. **Q: I like the hotswap buttons to change between computers. Is it possible to slave a wireless mouse to this keyboard so that it changes withthe keyboard?** A: No you can't sleeve a mouse with it. Ciao…. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing high quality keyboard, just not for me *by D***G on March 7, 2021* When I first learned to type, I purchased an ergo keyboard. This was a long time ago when over a few niche companies were even making them before Microsoft came out and set the standard for how they should look. Fast forward a couple of decades and now I very rarely use one. I grew accustomed to typing on laptops and eventually mechanical keyboards. I'm a technology director for a company so I come across a lot of these keyboards that are deployed to employees and like to try them out. This keyboard is far and away the highest quality ergo keyboard I have ever used. The fit and finish on it is excellent and if this style keyboard is your thing, I know you will be impressed. While I am a touch typist, I have also picked up bad habits over the years and I was always self-taught without the home key style training that keys fingers on the sides they are supposed to stay on. This causes issues when using split design keyboards that Id rather just avoid than retrain my mind. I went from typing around 95-105 wpm on standard layout keyboards to around 75-80 on this and with enough work I know I could have gone back up. The Battery life is excellent on this keyboard and the wrist rest, though permanently attached, is quite comfortable. I've read complaints that the texture can cause some irritation but I did not find this to be the case for me.
