So I specifically tested for this and it's correct. After 1 minute, the beep and flash automatically stop although if you press the start/stop button before 1 minute, the beep/flash stop immediately. It's a good basic timer, I like it - and when you're not using it as a timer, it doubles as a clock (time of day) if that's of any interest. **Q: Does this timer count up after countdown complete?** A: I just tried it, and yes it does count up when the countdown is complete. **Q: Why can't I set the time?** A: This will sound silly and inconvenient . When you remove one of the batteries & replace it, clock will read 12:00 AM. So at 12:00 midnite , remove one of the batteries & replace immediately & the clock will now read the correct time. It's easy to set up, volume is loud enough, magnet works, light feature is useful. It's well built and likely to last a while. Clock feature is nice as well when I'm not using the timer or stopwatch. I wish there was some kind of an indicator for battery level.
