I am a retired Assistant Principal of a New York City high school who also has an abiding love for problem solving. Those of us in this community are always looking for good collections of challenging problems. Dr. Grigorieva's book is such a resource. Her problems are compellingbut not inaccessible. They are presented in the context of the principal ideas and theorems of the subject. The important theorems in the book are presented with proof and her solutions are detailed and sound. Furthermore, readers of the book are offered homework exercises in each chapter to enhance their understandings. I am only doing a couple of problems at a time so that the book "lasts longer"!Dr. Grigorieva has written a very valuable book for those of us who love mathematics, and, in particular, geometry. It is also a terrific resource for students preparing for the various Spring contests presented by the American Mathematics Competitions. The author says in her introduction that she hopes to promote a love for mathematics via this book. Her own love and respect for her subject do, indeed, come through on every page. Either the author just has a better understandingof his target audience then other Popular Science authors or he just has a superiorability to explain things then they do. This book is suitable for any reasonably intelligentlayperson.I did crack a physics book several decades ago so I knew something about Galileoand Newton and what classical mechanics is. I also had a general idea of Relativityand that Quantum Mechanics dealt with the microscopic world. There really is no mathbut he does list a few equations just to show you what they look like. Some of them areare a joy to look at and even understandable if you know what the square root and pi symbolsmean and that a logarithm is just the power you a particular base to in order to derive anothernumber. Which is nothing more than High School Algebra. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding book *by N***A on Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2013* With each page of reading, I feel lucky to have found this book. Normally, geometry problem books are lines of equation after equation all referring to a single diagram. Thus, it's hard to follow along. What makes this book unique is that the author does not shy from using working figures as you go about the solution. Further, the solution takes you through the "thought process" of solving problems. This type of explanation is a real gem often overlooked by other authors.
