Our landline is through Ooma - basic plan. Prior to the Vtech phone system we received easily 12 calls a day from numbers identified with a leading “v” and other telemarketing calls. The call block feature of our Panasonic cordless phone system did not help our situation. My research into separate Call Blockers did not find anything that indicated it could help with the “v” callers (I believe it is because the v number is actually in the name field, not the phone number field.) After installing the VTech system in the call screening mode, callers not on our lists must speak their name and hit the # key, all telemarketing calls, including the “v” numbers, stopped. Anyone on our phone list rings right through. For those that speak their name and hit #, we hear their name and have the screening options. It is a well thought out feature. Bonus – the sound quality of phone calls and the answering machine recording quality is far superior to our previous Panasonic system. The same Smart Call Blocker feature can be found in the AT&T branded phones as they are made by VTech. In researching AT&T phones, it was difficult to identify which were the latest and greatest models, so I chose to go with the VTech branded phone system. Minor Cons: The handsets use battery packs instead of individual cells. Individual cells are much less expensive to replace in the future. I wish they had a way to transfer a contacts list other than through a cell phone. I would like to be able to transfer through a computer connection. I would also like to be able to backup the VTech phones contact, approved and blocked lists to a computer or flash. At the writing of this review, the system has been in place for 2 weeks. Review: Blocks Spam Calls! - Purchased these phones originally because of the long range, but my favorite feature has turned out to be the Spam Call Blocker. The phone flashes, but does not ring, when a spam or unknown number comes. No more car warranty calls or any other unwanted automated calls! You would need to put numbers for automated calls you want/need (Pharmacy, Doctor, Hospital, etc.) in the Allowed list so you don't miss those, but it's easy to add them. The batteries last several days off the charger. The only downside for me would be the sound.
