The Tomcat® Rat Snap Trap sets easily in one motion with your hand or foot. This effective, patented snap trap includes interlocking teeth that make it virtually impossible for rats to escape. High-impact plastic and rust-resistant metals allow the trap to be re-used again and again. Place perpendicular to a wall or other structure where rats are known to travel. The rat trap also comes with a removable bait cup. Review: Effective rat catcher. - Worked much better than I anticipated it would. Caught and killed 2 rats in 2 nights! Works like the old school mouse spring traps, but this is bigger to accommodate the size of a rat. Was easy to set up and install peanut butter in the little cup to use as bait. No poison to worry about for pets or kids. But the spring and jaws were very strong so keep them away once the trap is set. Still had to open the jaws to let the rat drop into a bag for disposal but was easy to do.

I've tried MANY potential solutions including poison pellets and more expensive battery operated units. I decided against poison as there are dogs around me I did not want to risk endangering. The battery-operated ones worked very well at first but rats are very clever and it didn't take long for them to outsmart the shock and still eat the peanut butter bait. Besides, they were sucking up 4 D batteries like crazy which is another whole set of problems. Finally, after exhausing all other possibilities, I went back to physical control. This trap is excellent in that it swiftly dispatches the rat, usually before it has had even a nibble of bait. It is very easy to set and to undo either over the trash can, or in a grave hole to become compost. One press to set, one pinch to release. Could not be cleaner or easier.

Worked much better than I anticipated it would. Caught and killed 2 rats in 2 nights! Works like the old school mouse spring traps, but this is bigger to accommodate the size of a rat. The trap is very easy to set up. These were my first rat traps and overall it was effective at catching them. They were still pretty sturdy after multiple catches in the sunhouse.
