Review: Works as designed - Works like it’s supposed to. But like me if you need it you have something wrong that needs to be addressed.
Review: This stuff works, just go slow. - I've used NoPox in my reef for the last 9 months, and I've now started using it in my large FOWLR aquarium as well. There are multiple ways to reduce nitrates in saltwater aquariums, but NoPox (which is basically just methanol and vinegar) makes it very easy. From my observations, I can tell you a few things. First, start slowly. Nothing good happens quickly in this hobby, and reducing nitrates is part of that. I always begin with a half daily dose for the first week, and scale up from there. That seems to reduce or eliminate the initial bacteria blooms, and if you're keeping sensitive corals it will prevent you from rapidly bottoming out your nitrate and shocking them. Second, although the product says you shouldn't use phosphate removers in conjunction with NoPox, I've always done so, with no problems. NoPox is highly effective at removing nitrates, but in my experience doesn't really touch phosphates. You can still use phosguard or GFO with this product. Lastly, make sure you have an efficient protein skimmer running 24/7, and give it 3-4 weeks (or more) before you decide it's not working for you. If you're going slowly, it'll take time to lower your nitrates, but NoPox will do so. Just remember to adjust (as in reduce) your daily dose as your nitrates fall below 5-10 ppm.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be diluted with rodi water?**
A: I know of several reef keeper who dilute with rodi water when using smaller doses, although I would contact Red Sea for the right mixture

**Q: I am running vinegar for nitrate reduction. How long do I need to stop the vinegar before I start this??**
A: Suggest you call Red Sea. Their customer service with this product is helpful. Alternatively, you can also send an email. I've used both methods in successfully communicating with them.

**Q: Does this take longer for large tanks? I have 150 gallon s with a 68 gallon sump.**
A: tank size does not matter I have 180, and I dose it with a dosser which is the best way to reduce nitrates, this stuff is excellent....it will take a while for the bacteria to form (should not be more than a month) , you will notice first a white film on your glass, once that starts the bacteria is growing and the white will disappear, the fish and snails love the bacteria. Again it needs to be done daily and your nitrates can be either gone, or reduced down to nothing if you prefer to have just a small amount. Again a dosser is the best method Jaebo cheap and works well under 60.00 Hope this helps

**Q: Can this be used in a freshwater aquarium?**
A: It is suggested to use for salt water aquarium

*by A***M on November 12, 2014*

This product helped reduce an ongoing nitrate problem. After a long trip we came home to a tank over run by Green Hair Algae and nitrates and phosphates out of control. After the biopellet reactor kept clogging due to the poor water conditions (we did implement large weekly water changes as part of the recovery strategy) I decided to try this. Unlike other carbon dosing methods I researched this one has a formulated plan - they've done the dosing research and it is based on chemistry values. As someone relatively new to the hobby it was attractive due to a straight forward learning curve and low risk if used as directed. After using this for a week nitrates dropped from over 20ppm to 10. It has been about 6 months now and between this product and the restoration of good husbandry practices (regular water changes, good protein skimming and ensuring filter socks and rocks are cleared of debris routinely) the GHA problem has finally resolved. We did not use this as a single solution but it definitely worked as part of an ongoing plan. Will continue to use this product.
