When I was a toddler, my mom read me poems from Shel Silverstein's A Light in the Attic, Falling Up, and Where the Sidewalk Ends. It was in fact one of the most pivotal experiences of my childhood, as it initiated my love and hunger for reading. 15 years later, it's the beginning of November, and I'm looking for something to get my mom for her 51st birthday present. When I saw this book was on sale at Amazon, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to buy it. Since my mom used to read me poems from the book, I decided to record myself reading the first 30 or so poems from the book. Of the ones I read, they were in the same fun, catchy tone as his many previous poem collections.. These poems (and the illustrations too, of course!) were just as special and unique as the ones I had read more than a decade ago. I loved them, even as an adult! Needless to say, my mother loved the present as well. As a college student, I also appreciate the relatively inexpensive price of this beautiful hardcover book. R.I.P. Shel Silverstein -- a true inspiration for children and adults alike, with his uniquely catchy and surprisingly deep poem-writing.
