**Q: Are holes 1-1/2” center to center? Will they both hit a stud?**
A: No it is wider
I installed them vertically so both screws hit a stud

A: Mine are all mounted but it was like 1/8 to 3/16 Inch thick!

A: thickness>1.5 inches.

**Q: how thick must the shelf be?**
A: If you are using solid woods hard woods like maple or oak or walnut, you could, in theory do 1" thick pieces.  Keep in mind though your drill hole must be perfectly centered to give equal meat over and under the post.  I just installed 1 1/8" shelves - but I also have 17" drill press that allowed me to get precision hole placements.

Well built. Included screws are good quality. I’m not using it for a floating shelf. It does work well for hanging cords, etc.

The brackets work as expected, and once installed, the shelf is solid and looks great. I’m very happy with the final product. That said, mounting the brackets was a bit challenging because my plaster walls aren’t perfectly even. The uneven surface caused the brackets to sit slightly off-level at first, which created some early frustration. I ended up making small shims to get everything aligned properly. Also, as others have mentioned, the placement of the screw holes means you need to angle the screws inward slightly if you want both to hit the studs.
