Push a separate button for three successive increases in brightness. And trust me, it is really bright. DO NOT shine this LED directly into someone's eyes on the high beam. In an exercise in stupidity, I did the "wet paint, I'll touch it to see" bit, looked into the beam for about two seconds and had a white spot in front of my eyes for about 30 seconds. I was in front of my house in the dark due to a noise we heard, perhaps a deer, low light didn't show much, medium picked it up and high it lit up the night, and the deer was clear. Cannot believe this for the price. My new go to light.
