The kit aspect of it is good practice if you need to hone your soldering skills or begin programming chips. (Playing with the MAX7219 is fun!) My only real gripe is the electrolytic capacitor is too tall and doesn’t let the matrix unit fully seat. It seats in well enough to operate, but I’d rather not see exposed pins sticking out of the headers. Guess I could pop in a shorter cap if it comes down to it. It’s no better or worse than any other low-priced imported circuit kit.
