## Description

Rift is Phish's fourth official studio album and the next to be released on vinyl by JEMP Records. The album was originally recorded in September and October at White Crow Studios in Burlington, VT on 24-track 2" tape by engineer Kevin Halpin assisted by Jon Altschiller. Rift was mastered by Bob Ludwig and released by Elektra on 9/2/93. It was certified Gold. In 2014, Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering cut lacquers from DAT Flat Masters for the vinyl edition. Each LP of this 2-LP set is pressed onto 180g audiophile grade vinyl and includes a free MP3 download of the album transferred from the vinyl.

This is one of the best albums Phish recorded and the sound on this is really quite good even though it's from the 90s. It won't have the depth of sound as vinyl but for me that's fine. The songs on it were among the first ones I ever heard by the band and I remember when this album came out. It was on heavy rotation among me and my friends in college and I'm so glad to get a copy of it again today. I highly recommend it for any Phish fan or anyone who likes progressive rock and or Frank Zappa. Phish are a totally unique group in all of music, but those influences, among many others, can be heard in their music. It's also a bit of a loose concept album which makes it extra fun to think about as you listen. It's a subtle concept so don't expect anything thematic like Quadrophenia. And lastly the album art by David Welker is just stunningly beautiful.
