I just tried and a deprimed and sized .223 casing dropped in flush with the top surface and came out easily, while unsized brass stopped about 1/8" out (it could be forced in but had to be poked out with a hex wrench.) Note that this gauge ONLY checks whether the round will chamber, it does not check for overall length. **Q: If I have some 44 mag and 44 S&W will it help to tell the difference? or 10mm and 40 S&W. Both have the diam, but different depths. thanks** A: No it does not, I have both and it will tell you what its bored for. Brass is mark on back of rim to know which brass is which. 40\10mm are same CIA.
