## Overview

ThermaCels is a NASA-developed ceramic insulating paint additive that integrates microspheres into any paint or coating, reflecting up to 90% of solar infrared and 85% of UV rays. This innovative additive enhances insulation, reduces heat transfer, and lowers energy bills without changing paint properties. Sold in packages matched to paint volume, it’s the smart choice for professionals seeking efficient, eco-friendly thermal protection.

## Description

Developed from NASA technology, HY-TECH ceramic insulating paint additive is a fine, white powder blend of high strength ceramic "microspheres". Each single ceramic microsphere is so small that it looks to the naked eye as if it is a single grain of flour, (slightly thicker than a human hair). When mixed into paint the painted surface dries to a tightly packed layer of the hard, hollow "microspheres", (Hy-Tech's exclusive CVM, ceramic vacuum matrix technology.) The tightly packed film reflects and dissipates heat by minimizing the path for the transfer of heat. The ceramics are able to reflect, refract and block heat radiation (loss or gain) and dissipate heat rapidly preventing heat transfer through the coating with as much as 90% of solar infrared rays and 85% of ultra violet-rays being radiated back into the atmosphere. Hy-Tech insulating additive is completely inert and can be mixed into ANY paint, coating or composite including interior house paint, exterior house paint, roof paint, solvent base coating, epoxy, urethane, high temperature paint, elastomerics, mastics etc. The addition of the ceramics to any material provides heat reflection, insulation, improved fire resistance, and lower heating / cooling costs. We recommend that surfaces have at LEAST two coats of paint containing ceramics to get results. This is based on the small size of the ceramics and the need to have then distributed evenly on a surface. More coats will produce better results. Package size represents the amount of paint that package will treat. For example the "1 gallon package" will treat 1 gallon of paint. The "5 gallon package" will treat 5 gallons of paint, etc.

Review: People mis-interpret the benefits of this product - Therma cells work great for some applications but many people seem to miss-interpret the benefits of using it. I used it on my school bus conversion's interior walls and did some testing on it. I used Rust-Oleum bedliner and did a thick two-coat application for reference. I would highly recommend a thicker coating like a bedliner for use with this product. I found that my walls were noticeably cooler after applying the coating. My 1st control was an un painted area which was too hot to hold a hand to after sitting in the sun all day, 2nd control was bed liner with no Therma Cells and then I had the area I applied it to. The second area was about 4 degrees cooler than the first but still noticeably hot to the touch. The Therma Cell area was only another 2 degrees cooler than the second, but it was not warm to the touch. My conclusion is that it seems like Thermacells are very effective at lowering the HEAT CAPACITY of a coated material, but not necessarily it's actual temperature. This means that thermacells will make the coated area a poor condutor of heat to the air around it, but won't necessarily work wonders on the actual temperature of the material itself. I'd definitely purchase this again as it seemed to cut down radient heat and touch-surface's (perceived, not really actual) temperatures noticeably.
Review: A must have been painting your homes exterior - I researched the living daylights out of this product so I knew exactly what we were getting into. The only trouble that we had was trying to find a professional painter that would agree to mix it with the paint and apply it to our home. Big strike out. We found a handyman That took no issue. He mixed it with the paint that we purchased according to the directions. We did have to buy him a new nozzle because the product did wear his nozzle down significantly. It does not look any different than if we painted without the product however it reflects/rejects/bounces back heat that would normally come from our hot Arizona sun. We purchased enough to mix with the primer that was first applied, and then mixed again the recommended amount with the paint that went over the primer. It looks truly amazing and does not provide any indication that there is anything in the paint. That really mattered because I didn’t want our home to be sparkly or have some weird additive looking effect. It just simply looks professionally beautifully painted by the handyman that did the work. I helped him throughout much of the process. I highly recommend this product. It is like having a secret barrier or shield over your home.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will additive make paint waterproof?**
A: Absolutely no effect on the permeability of paints at all . The paint will have to be the product that determines the seal/permeability . This product only improves sound blocking, thermal transfer, abrasion resistance and things of that nature. You will want an epoxy or elastomeric type of paint rated for submersion to waterproof something . Boat bottom paint ,elastomeric roof paint ,something along those lines . Be sure to consider if it will need to be flexible . If flexibility is required then epoxy or bottom paint is not appropriate and you will be forced to use some sort of elastomeric type of coating.

**Q: Can i mix this with drywall mud? Or in with stucco mix?**
A: Hello. Absolutely yes this can be mixed with these, or any type of product into which a powder can be added. With thicker products such as drywall mud, undercoating, etc, we recommend adding 3/4 of the normal amount to begin with. This is to avoid making the product too thick. More ceramics can always be added to keep a workable viscosity of the material you are using.

**Q: I have a propane fired blacksmiths forge insulated with ceramic insulation board that reaches 2500f. Will tbe stuff work at that temperature?**
A: I would bet that if made into a slurry consistency with a sodium silicate solution (waterglass) that this could make a decent performing coating with great insulation properties.

**Q: I have a propane fridge with bad insulation. Would painting the inside walls of the fridge with this product help?**
A: If mixed into the proper type of paint for that temperature application, it would work. Multiple coats would have to be applied to get enough ceramics on the surface.
We would highly recommend painting the outside with our RC 233 industrial product, as it was designed for applications like this.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ about 10 -15 degree drop
*by R***O on October 15, 2023*

This stuff does help. I have a block wall which faces west in phoenix az. I tested several areas one with white paint, one white with additive and one the medium brown of the original house color. Original house was 148 degrees plus the white alone dropped temp 20 degrees and finally the white with one coat of additive dropped temp by 30 degrees . at 10 to 15 extra dollars per gallon I figure here in the hottest city in the country its gonna be well worth the money even if its on 10 - 15 degrees. With our insane heat and an uninsulated block wall every bit helps!
