Review: Best trash can ever - I paid over $150 over a year ago and it was some of the best money I've ever spent. This item is so well-designed and such high quality. It looks great and works as well today as when I bought it. The made-to-fit can liners come in a pouch that fits in the back of the can, so they're right there when you need to change. This is the best trash can I've ever owned. I never thought I'd want to buy specialty trash liners, but these work so well that I am a convert. Excellent product. Review: Elegant, Efficient, Functional, and Family-Friendly - Someone FINALLY made a WHITE, stainless, rectangular, 55-liter kitchen trash can without any motion sensors or other bells and whistles! I’ve been searching for a kitchen trash can that meets these specs for about four years, but nothing ever quite fit the bill. Circular and oval cans are not a good use of our space, silver and copper colored ones draw too much attention to themselves, I don’t want to deal with electronics on motion sensors breaking or malfunctioning, etc. And then finally, Simple Human makes this! Pros: 1. The foot pedal is sturdy and can be compressed fully even if all you can get is a toe on the corner of it, which is great when you also have a baby on one hip and your other hand full of trash. You can literally do a walk-by-trashing with just a little side step. 2. The lid that opens with foot pedal compression is an ultra light, flat cover (as opposed to the larger, heavier lid used for bag changes) which allows it to pop open more quickly and with less pressure, but then also has a cushioned close so there’s no noise afterwards. 3. It comes in the 55-liter size which is much more reasonable for our family of five, resulting in fewer bag changes. 4. The bottom of the can has enough grip that it can’t be accidentally slid across the floor or out of its intended spot by little passers-by. 5. The back of the can holds and dispenses the appropriate bags towards the inside of the can for fast, easy, no-excuses bag replacement. 6. The outer lid used for bag changes subtly and elegantly covers the rim of the garbage bag for a secure fit but a seamless look. 7. Have I mentioned it’s rectangular? This reduces not only wasted space but also how much floor debris can work its way around the back of the can. Cons: 1. The top lid that opens with foot pedal compression is a brushed stainless silver, even on the white stainless can. It was certainly not a deal breaker for this mom who has been looking for something even in this ballpark for years, but it’s worth noting. 2. Additionally, the top lid is light and thin, which makes opening faster but also means it can be more easily dented, and those dents show. The lid on the first can we received had three minor but visible dents in it just from the packaging and shipping process. (I called Simple Human and they were willing to send an entire lid to me with no questions asked, except they didn’t yet have extra white lids because the product was so new. desertcart handled the return/exchange with absolutely no fuss, so I’m not even taking a star off for this. Customer service from both companies was excellent.) 3. I mentioned the base is sturdy and doesn’t allow the can to slide across the floor? Well, I didn’t realize until I switched to this product how often I use my foot/leg to slide the trash can closer to my present prepping or cooking space when my hands are already full. So plan ahead—you’ll need to pick it up and place it where you’re going to want it before you’re holding the drippy melon rinds or meat packaging that warrants a very close receptacle. 4. The Simple Human bags that fit in the dispenser are a little pricier than normal bags. It’s worth it to me, and desertcart offers a 5% discount for Subscribe and Save on them, but the bag dispensing feature won’t be a help for anyone not wanting to buy the bags that fit there. 5. The top silver lid shows little fingerprints easily, however, it also wipes off easily; just buff with a damp paper towel. As there’s no functional reason to touch that top lid at all, fingerprint frequency is decreasing as my children figure this new contraption out. None of these Cons take away from a 5-Star rating for my family. This has been a much needed addition to my kitchen and I’m extatic about it. (If you don’t understand why, you don’t have enough children yet. ;) ## Features - LINER RIM SYSTEM, NO INNER BUCKET: Stainless steel rim grips the liner directly and keeps it hidden — 25% more space for trash, faster liner changes, no clumsy bucket to fumble. - 150,000-STEP STEEL PEDAL BUILT TO OUTLAST 20+ YEARS: Engineered for over 150,000 steps — that's more than 20 steps a day for two decades of busy kitchen use. - LID SHOX QUIETS THE BUSIEST KITCHEN: Patented motion control delivers a slow, silent close every time — no slamming, no banging when the room is moving. - LINER POCKET STORES 20 LINERS INSIDE THE CAN: Dispenses custom-fit liners one by one from inside the can — never search for a fresh bag again. - CODE M CUSTOM FIT LINERS: Tailored to fit this can perfectly — extra-thick, double-seamed, no bunching, no slipping, no messy bag overhang. - BRUSHED STAINLESS STEEL WITH 45-DAY ODORSORB POD: Invisible silver-ion coating resists fingerprints and water spots — plus a complimentary odorsorb pod eliminates trash odors for 45 days. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B011CSY3R4 | | Additional Features | I'm the Strong, Silent Type: 150,000-Step Pedal + Lid Shox® Silent Close, Liner Lock, Removable Bucket | | Best Sellers Rank | #6,723 in Home & Kitchen ( See Top 100 in Home & Kitchen ) #23 in Kitchen Waste Bins | | Brand | simplehuman | | Brand Name | simplehuman | | Capacity | 45 liters | | Color | White Stainless Steel (with Steel Lid) | | Customer Reviews | 4.6 out of 5 stars 586 Reviews | | Finish Type | Brushed | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00838810018140 | | Included Components | Trash Can, Code M Liner Trial Pack, Odorsorb Pod Starter Pack, 10-Year Warranty | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 15.9"L x 13.3"W x 25.8"H | | Item Type Name | trash can | | Item Weight | 12.8 pounds | | Manufacturer | simplehuman | | Material | white steel | | Material Type | white steel | | Opening Mechanism | Step-On | | Recommended Uses For Product | Cooking-heavy households that go through liners fast, Daily kitchen trash routines in busy households, Liner-rim convenience without an inner bucket to fumble, Open-concept kitchens where the trash can sits in plain view, Premium kitchens with white or light-palette appliances Recommended Uses For Product Cooking-heavy households that go through liners fast, Daily kitchen trash routines in busy households, Liner-rim convenience without an inner bucket to fumble, Open-concept kitchens where the trash can sits in plain view, Premium kitchens with white or light-palette appliances See more | | Room Type | Kitchen | | Shape | Rectangular | | UPC | 838810018140 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** simplehuman - **Capacity:** 12 gallons - **Color:** White Stainless Steel (with Steel Lid) - **Finish Type:** Brushed - **Material:** white steel - **Opening Mechanism:** Step-On - **Room Type:** Kitchen - **Shape:** Rectangular ## Images ![simplehuman Kitchen Trash Can with Lid, Touchless Waste Bin, Large 45 Liter, Rectangular, White Stainless Steel - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71ouKBufTwL.jpg) ![simplehuman Kitchen Trash Can with Lid, Touchless Waste Bin, Large 45 Liter, Rectangular, White Stainless Steel - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81UjYo50NvL.jpg) ![simplehuman Kitchen Trash Can with Lid, Touchless Waste Bin, Large 45 Liter, Rectangular, White Stainless Steel - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71q3WarG8pL.jpg) ![simplehuman Kitchen Trash Can with Lid, Touchless Waste Bin, Large 45 Liter, Rectangular, White Stainless Steel - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71GffVkEudL.jpg) ![simplehuman Kitchen Trash Can with Lid, Touchless Waste Bin, Large 45 Liter, Rectangular, White Stainless Steel - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/718SRf8zxcL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Color, Size** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: How does the liner pocket and rim system work?** A: The liner pocket holds a refill pack of Simplehuman custom fit liners. Not to mention its spacious interior. The innovative mechanism that helps silently and slowly close the trash lid with ease is what makes this trash can stand out from competitors. Even being placed straight against the wall, the top of the lid does not even touch the wall when you fully open the trash can. ---($129.99 for a 12 gal.) (note: I bought this model [12 gal.] for $103.99 on May 2016)--- The high price compared to other +10 gallon trash bins might draw you away from buying this model if you are on a budget, however you need to ask yourself two questions, "is it worth it and does it meet my needs and wants?". I would say its worth it if you have some extra cash laying around because this trash can is meant to last a while, I don't mean 5 years!! It comes with a 10 year warranty and just by the looks of the build of the trash bin, I potentially see more than 10 years of service life. Like a great investment. Well its hard to give a more detailed review since this trash can is simple, and writing even more will make you more indecisive. So I attached several images to help you decide. I recommend that you buy the white steel model if you want minimal visible scratch marks. Stainless steel looks great at first when its brand new, however as the trash can ages, you are going to see a whole lot of marks, including water marks and scratches from cleaning the trash can. Wish everyone the best and also, the best buying experience! ## Frequently Bought Together - simplehuman Kitchen Trash Can with Lid, Touchless Waste Bin, Large 45 Liter, Rectangular, White Stainless Steel - simplehuman Code M 100 Count, Genuine Custom Fit Liners, Drawstring Trash Bags in Dispenser Packs, 45 Liter / 11.9 Gallon, White - simplehuman Odorsorb Pod All-Natural Odor-Absorbing System Starter Pack --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.at/products/25222314-simplehuman-kitchen-trash-can-with-lid-touchless-waste-bin-large](https://www.desertcart.at/products/25222314-simplehuman-kitchen-trash-can-with-lid-touchless-waste-bin-large) --- *Product available on Desertcart Austria* *Store origin: AT* *Last updated: 2026-10-17*
