I also am not someone who knows how to sew, so I think having this heat bonding tape is a life saver for some unexpected situations as well as a temporary solution to solving a fabric problem. 🤞

The hem tape technically works, but you have to be very careful how much heat you use when applying it. If you apply too much heat it seems to render that piece of tape unusable. That said, as long as you're mindful of the process you'll be good. Description says that this is for dark fabrics, but seems to work fine with lighter fabrics too. The caveat with light fabrics, is that you should only use it on tightly woven light fabrics.
