I will reapply in late fall. It is a bit pricey, but cheaper than calling the Roto-Router man after each back up episode, about $100 a year per visit . Basically, about 15 minutes before leaving the house to visit family, I put on latex gloves and screw the funnel onto the Rootx tub and rotate it back and forth to fully mix the two types of granular before pouring directly into the sewer opening in the front yard. I follow that up by quickly pouring in two 5 gallon buckets of water. First 5 gallons of water is to quickly dissolve the granular into foam, and the second 5 gallon of water is to move the foam throughout the length of the sewer. Just in case, I then check the inside of the house to make sure no foam was coming out the toilet nearest the sewer opening. No problems. Back home about 6 hours later (the required waiting time before flushing the toilet or using the sink) and it is all done. Sewer lines have remain clear longer than just using Zep copper sulfate crystals ($10) from Home Depot which have to be reapply every 5-6 months ($20 each year). Copper sulfate will only kill roots that are touching the water line, leaving new roots in the top half of the of pipe untouched and grow out.I sitll have 4 lbs of RootX left and may just use 1 lb instead (about 1/2 of the recommended amount), because according to the plumber, the root invasion is about 3 feet from from the sewer opening. I haven't check the sewer line yet with a sewer camera, but the product (foam) is supposed to stick to the inside of the sewer above the normal water to keep the roots from re-invading the pipe from above for a year.
