The blades however are not. The pink and silver are the same (so interchangeable between those two) BUT I learned recently that the black housing and its blades are not bc the black housing is shorter than the other two. Word to the wise! LOL 💜💜💜 **Q: Will this work in the Air 2?** A: yes it can be used for the Air 2. **Q: Is the Deep Cut Blade HOUSING required if you already have a deep cutting blade? Can you just use the housing that comes with the machine?** A: From their website: The Cricut Explore Deep Cut blade has a steeper blade angle (60 degrees vs. 45) and harder, more durable steel. The deep cut blade and housing is recommended for cutting magnet, chipboard, stamp material, thick cardstock, stiffened felt, foam sheets, cardboard, fabric, and other thicker materials. The Deep Cut blade housing is shorter than the regular blade housing to provide clearance for thicker materials up to 2.0mm. **Q: do you have to recalibrate the machine after switching to the deep cut blade? or does it know it is a deep cut blade?** A: I did have to go into the custom settings and choose felt with backing as the material before it cut. I used steam a seam to stabilize the felt before placing it on the cutting mat, but I found with the felt with backing setting the pressure was still too much as it cut into the mat. I had to adjust the cut pressure to a little lower.
