The distinctive aesthetic of mid-century design captured the post-war zeitgeist of energy and progress, and remains hugely popular today. In Mid-Century Modern Graphic Design Theo Inglis takes an in-depth look at the innovative graphics of the period, writing about the work of artists and designers from all over the world. From book covers, record covers and posters to advertising, typography and illustration, the designs feature eye-popping colour palettes, experimental type and prints that buzz with kinetic energy. The book features artworks from a wide selection of international designers and illustrators whose work continues to inspire and influence today, including Ray Eames, Paul Rand, Alex Steinweiss, Joseph Low, Alvin Lustig, Elaine Lustig Cohen, Leo Lionni, Rudolph de Harak, Abram Games, Tom Eckersley, Ivan Chermayeff, Josef Albers, Corita Kent, Jim Flora, Ben Shahn, Herbert Bayer and Helen Borten. Theo draws from a broad range of sources including advertising, magazine covers, record sleeves, travel posters and children’s book illustration to show the development of the design style globally, and how this continues to influence design today. The book is packed with hundreds of colour illustrations, including classic designs, such as Saul Bass’ film posters and Miroslav Šašek’s children’s books, alongside lesser-known gems. Review: Only a few pages about kid's books illustrations, and small font sizes. Other than that, perfect! - Amazing content! Almost everything I expected. I think there are only two cons I should point out: 1) not so many pages focused on kids illustration books as there are on the other chapters, and 2) Font size is too small. It is hard to see without my glasses. Other than that, just perfect! Highly recommended. PS: It arrived amazingly fast! Review: Une merveille - Ce livre est indispensable pour les fan du design graphique des années 50-60. Une vraie source d'inspiration pour les illustrateurs et graphistes. J'en suis très satisfaite ! ## Features - Item Trademark: BATSFORD LTD - manufacturer: Batsford Ltd - Item Weight: grams, pounds, 2.16493941284, 982. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #127,024 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #641 in Antiques & Collectibles #50,384 in Textbooks & Study Guides | | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 389 Reviews | ## Images ![Mid-Century Modern Graphic Design - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61Prhk9e-rL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Only a few pages about kid's books illustrations, and small font sizes. Une vraie source d'inspiration pour les illustrateurs et graphistes. J'en suis très satisfaite ! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great, one-of-a-kind MCM resource. *by D***S on 25 February 2020* This book is a beautiful, thick, highly professional and handsome hardcover compendium of illustrations taken from about the period of 1948---1966. Reproduced here and printed expertly. Full color examples throughout of the work of some illustrators whose names you know (e.g. Alvin Lustig and Jim Flora) and others whom you do not, all of them working in the slightly quirky style and particular colors of the 50's and early-60's. Do note that these are all the work of esteemed professional illustrators-- the book does not contain, say, cheezy labels, ads or kitschy ephemera. Some of it borders upon the "fugly"... but that's entirely the point, right? A lot of it reminds me of the children's books I owned as a small kid in the 1960's. Much of it has a retro "Populuxe" quality, which will be useful to modern designers seeking to recreate this look on their own (a-la SHAG and Derek Yaniger, etc.). Do note that it includes no "60's Mod" stuff, ie., stuff done after about 1963--64. No, this is all just before that. ## Frequently Bought Together - Mid-Century Modern Graphic Design - Tom Eckersley: A Mid-century Modern Master --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.at/products/262719545-mid-century-modern-graphic-design](https://www.desertcart.at/products/262719545-mid-century-modern-graphic-design) --- *Product available on Desertcart Austria* *Store origin: AT* *Last updated: 2026-10-22*
