Review: I'm very pleased with this purchase - Aquarium Light Review After being away from the aquarium hobby for 25 years, I’ve been surprised by just how much things have changed. Gone are the days of bulky aquarium hoods with fluorescent tubes. Today’s lighting options are much more streamlined, and this light is a great example of how far aquarium equipment has come. I’m getting back into the hobby with four 33-gallon long tanks, each measuring 48" x 12" x 13". Because of the length of these tanks, I ordered the 48–54 inch version of this light. My first impression was very positive. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and especially by how incredibly low-profile the fixture is. It doesn’t have the bulky appearance of older aquarium lighting, and once it’s mounted on the tank, it has a very clean and unobtrusive look. The fixture also feels solid and well made, rather than lightweight or flimsy. Another thing I really like is the way the light is directed. It shines straight down into the aquarium rather than throwing a lot of light outward, which helps put the available light where it’s actually needed. For my 33-gallon long tank, it appears to provide plenty of brightness and gives the aquarium a nice, evenly illuminated appearance. The controller is also fairly straightforward and doesn’t seem unnecessarily complicated. One feature I particularly like is that when the light is powered on, it gradually ramps up instead of coming on at full brightness immediately. This creates a sunrise-like effect, which is a nice feature and should make for a more natural-looking transition for the fish. I’ll probably end up plugging the light into a smart outlet and using an app on my phone to control the lighting schedule. That will allow me to automate the on/off times without having to manually operate the light every day. Obviously, I’ve only had the light for a short time, so I can’t comment yet on its long-term durability or how well it will hold up after months or years of use. However, based on the initial fit, finish, construction, brightness, and low-profile design, I’m impressed with it so far. For the price, this appears to be a very good value. If you’re looking for a simple, low-profile light for a longer aquarium and don’t need an overly complicated lighting system, this one is definitely worth considering. So far, I’m very pleased with my purchase and will be interested to see how it performs over the long term.
Review: Great light, especially for the price. - Not a perfect light but very good, especially for the price. Appreciate the build quality, timer functionality, brightness, adjustability, dawn vs. full spectrum vs. dusk/moonlight, and how fish look under the light. Wish there was a 10-hour timer and that there were more programmable options during the timers, but can’t complain too much given everything else.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You can't go wrong with these lights at their price!
*by L***1 on October 23, 2025*

Our 450-gallon African Cichlid tank desperately needed some new lighting, but after researching the high-end lights on the market, their price points were just plain ridiculous!!! So I started looking for the best lights for the money. I found several reviews on YouTube and other sources about these Hygger 978 24/7 lights. Compared to the high-end lights, these seemed too good to be true, but I decided to give them a try, and I ordered 4 sets of the 36-42" lights for our big tank. (The first number is the length of the light itself, and the 2nd number is how far the stands will extend out to fit your tank) They seem well-built, and although the directions are a little different, they were not difficult to program. There are manual settings that allow you to set specific time periods for the lights to be on, and in whatever color you prefer, and they allow you to adjust the brightness settings as well, but I wanted to try the 24/7 program. That program is pre-set, with the lights coming on at 6:30 AM in a dim, all-orange tint, to simulate sunrise. That gradually brightens up and turns whiter as the day goes on until the tank is fully lit with bright, daylight lighting. In the evening, the lights start dimming and turning bluer in color to simulate sunset, and eventually, an all-blue moonlight. Then the lights go off at 10:30 pm. We've only had the lights for a few days now, but so far we are loving them! The tank has not looked this good in a LONG time. The lights are really bringing out the colors in our fish, and they seem to enjoy the light schedule as well, with some of them becoming much more visible throughout the day than they were with our old lights. So far, the lights have been flawless, but at their very affordable price point, even if they don't last more than a year, I would definitely buy them again as needed. I honestly do not think anyone could go wrong buying these lights for their tank(s). Are their colors as accurate as the $2700 high-end lights I looked at? Probably not, but honestly, unless you had them both set up on tanks, side by side, I doubt that you would really notice! I've been running aquariums continually for over 45 years, and I think these lights just might be the biggest bargain I've ever found! (If this new purchase opinion changes, I'll update this review as needed.)
