Review: Unusual use... R/C Aircraft hinge material. - I had a dwindling supply of some drafting Mylar that I've been using for 25 years to make hinge material for my R/C aircraft. I thought I would give this a try so I purchased it. It actually is the same exact material that I have been using over the years. You can not tear this material. It is extremely durable, thin enough, yet very flexible. The lightweight is also extremely important because one needs to keep airframe weight to a minimum. It also takes glue fantastically. Beside benefit is that it ends up creating a self-centering flight control surface. I can draw on it with pencil yet extremely easy to erase the pencil marks after I make my cuts. Oh yeah I will be also using it to make stencils for the final painting and marking of a finished subject. I've already found multiple other uses already. How's that?DRUM ROLL....for dramatic effect!!!I used an embossing folder by Darice mainly for the style of design and it worked beautifully. I ran one piece through several times and it looks OK while having a slight curve in it like most paper or card stock. Then I ran a second piece through once then back to the starting position because it is easier to remove the folder from that position and it looks great too, without quite as much curve.The flower design is embossed in the plastic very well with no tearing or milky look around the edges, that I was concerned about. I chose this folder because the design has several sizes of daisy like flowers, some swirls formed from dots and also a couple tiny hearts. Besides the curve I can see no difference in the results. None of the designs in the folder caused a puncture in the plastic especially the dotted swirls.I believe you would be very happy with the Cuttlebug results too. So go for it...and by the way, thanks for asking, I love passing along information that I have learned so others can increase their knowledge and fun in their creativity.Don't forget you can stamp on this with a permanent ink too and color it. Thx** A: I don't have a laser printer, but have embossed the .005 with embossing powders and a heat gun that heats to over 450 degrees and my biggest one heats even higher but I threw away the box so not sure of the temp on it. So far this acrylic has stood up to everything I have thrown at it with no problems. As for the thickness, if you get the .005, it is about the thickness of a high quality business card. How is the thickness in comparison to saran wrap?** A: We have not tested the Dura-Lar as a release agent. However, we can tell you this product is much thicker than Saran Wrap. Unlike Saran Wrap which is flimsy and soft, even this thin Dura-Lar film resists creasing and wrinkling and is designed to remain smooth and flat.
