## Description

Product Description Perfect balance between quality and value The OMAX microscope is perfect for home school, teaching, demonstration, clinical examination, laboratories and advanced applications. Take a look at the structure of fungi and protozoa and even see the details of cell walls, membranes, organelles as well as the nucleus. It can be easily connected to a USB digital camera (sold separately) to record what you see in the microscope and store it as an image or video clip on your computer. OMAXThe composite biological microscope has eight magnification levels from 40X to 2000X. It comes with a sliding binocular viewing head, two pairs of wide-field eyepieces (WF10X, WF20X), four achromatic lenses DIN 4X, 10X, 40X (S), 100X (S, oil), a large mechanical double layer table with scale, Abbe NA1. .25 capacitor with iris diaphragm, coaxial coarse and fine focus buttons and LED transmitted light system with variable intensity Fully featured composite microscope 2000x magnification with 100x oil immersion lens Coaxial coarse and fine focus Mechanical stage with adjustment handle LED light Solid metal frame construction Binoculars Viewing Head The composite biological OMAX microscope offers eight magnification levels from 40X to 2000X. The microscope has 5X, 10X, 40X and 100X lenses. Coarse and fine focusing Coaxial coarse and fine focus buttons on both sides. This ergonomic design helps to easily adjust the focus to achieve the desired result. Transmitted lighting with variable LED intensity The transmitted lighting is included in this product as it has an LED light whose intensity can be adjusted according to the situation. It also lasts much longer than a typical halogen bulb. With the mechanical double layer table, you can move your sample completely for scanning or centering. Instead of just moving the clips on stage, the entire stage moves in dimensions X, Y, and Z. So your film will not slip in any way when you try to locate your point of interest on your film.

Review: Very good for the money - For 139 this microscope does almost every thing your could want and appears to be very good quality. Comes with a 2-pin plug for the light, as mentioned in other reviews, but I had an old shaver\toothbrush plug adapter which it fitted. My Schuko adapter did not fit. I also purchased some rubber eye pieces and I am trying to order a 60x 160 objective to replace the 100x oil objective, hopefully that will work. This flexibility is one of the advantages of getting a 4-objective standardised system. Comes with a plastic dust cover but no hard case, other than the polystyrene packaging. I haven't used the 20x eyepiece as it gives false magnification at the top end and is probably only of use to give 200x in between the 100x and 400x. I debated about paying more for a trinocular scope but at £100 more for very little-used functionality decided against it. The scope came fully assembled but with no usage instructions, so if you are new to these I would recommend viewing some youtube videos to understand the features, e.g. the condenser aperture, and the practical experiments you can do with it. While very much personal taste I like the look of the scope - it looks utilitarian and professional, more like a scientific tool than like a toy, and therefore seems to get a more respectful treatment from my just-started-secondary-school children. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I hope it will last a long time.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the purpose and/or advantage of the Double Layer Mechanical Stage?**
A: The double layer mechanical stage actually means the stage will give movement of the slide to both horizontal and longitudinal directions.

**Q: Is it suitable for examining coins?**
A: No. This microscope is for object you can shine light THROUGH. You would need a stereoscope for coins.

**Q: is this microscope good for looking at soil organisms? im looking for flagelletes protozao microbes...if anyone know the answer to this please tell**
A: It's perfectly fine. Just suspend some soil in water, put on a coverslip, and you are in business. It's no different from any other microscope--and its optics are surprisingly good. Besides flagellates, you will find a variety of other organisms, eggs of various species, fungi, ciliates, amebas and more.

**Q: Has anyone used the 2000x magnification? How clear is the image?**
A: I found it comparable in clarity to the same magnification in the microscopes at our University's labs. I observed motile bacilli & cocci in a droplet of yogurt the first time I tried it out, and the focus was quite clear. I don't think the visual field is quite as large as larger microscopes (like the ones in the lab) but it's not really noticeable.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great microscope for homebrewers!!
*by B***T on 6 December 2013*

I'm a homebrewer and I was looking for a microscope with which I could count yeast cells and check yeast viability. I didn't want to spend $500+ on a hobby microscope and my husband found this one for me! The image on 400x is great for counting cells with my hemocytometer (which I bought somewhere else) and it's very handy having the 20x eyepieces so that I can get an even better look at the yeast without having to deal with the oil objective lens (which works fine but is a little bit of a hassle to use and clean, BTW the immersion oil is included with the microscope). This is perfect for the nerdy homebrewer like myself. The image is just as good as the microscope used at a local brewpub here (which is a heavy duty college type microscope). Only 2 very minor complaints: First, you have to assemble the microscope (which is simple) by attaching the top eyepiece section to the base but the hole for the thumb screw that you use to screw the two together was poorly drilled (but then it's an inexpensive microscope). Once together it seems fine but the screw does stick out such that you wouldn't want someone using your microscope without knowing that this screw should not be touched. Second, while the instructions downloaded were generally fine, the instructions for interpupillary adjustment (3.3, page 5) read 'hold the left and right eyepiece tubes and slide the tubes in and out' when it should read ' hold eyepiece tubes and move them apart or closer together'. This is a great microscope for homebrewers. Great images for under $200 - well worth the money!! Just don't forget to get a hemocytometer or at the very least some slides and cover glass. So much fun for so little money!!
