I need a max jaw opening of 2-1/2".** A: Answer - jaw opens only 1 1/2inches on my Workpro 8" needle nose pliers . I also have several others some unknown and a Kobalt [ Lowe's ] a few different sizes none larger then 8". However Only one would reach the 2 1/4 inch open - it is Duluth SN56R DIAMALLY USA side cutter with green ' rubber' handle grip and spring assist opening. They are on Ebay - no longer in stores. I got mine back in 1980 + and they still work fine a bit dull for cutting wire - but will still do it. Sorry for late answer hope you find what you are looking for at a good price. I find WORKPRO or KOBALT are good brands and work well - but last 43 years as the DULUTH tool ??? but then neither did the tool company - again best of luck in your search. **Q: Why don't you show the other side of the pliers? Opposite the cutter should be a recess for clamping wire nuts.** A: I have one, although there is a recess behind the cutter it may be used for clamping wire nuts I'm not sure that indension was made for that. The pliers are very nice, well made, and are part of my tool belt. They are so nice and handy to pulled my Klein needle nose and put this one in its place, yea, they're that useful and fit the hand better. **Q: 6 months later, question remains....Do they resist rust?** A: The type of material the tool is made from does resist rust. It's listed as chromium-vanadium steel. The chromium increases resistance to oxidation (rusting), as well as abrasion and corrosion. The vanadium additive seems to increase strength. Hope that helps. Dennis's answer is partly correct. It doesn't acknowledge that many tools don't contain iron – so they can't rust.
