The 32-inch post height allows the cat to stretch vertically while using the post (important for territorial marking purposes and for toning muscles). Review: I have four fairly large cats (ranging from 6kg to 9kg) who have tested this product for me. This product sat in my desertcart shopping cart for some time while I pondered whether it was crazy to spend so much money on a scratching pole. After having had the pole for approximately three months now, I’m comfortable to say it was worth the money as my cats seem to love it and it’s a quality product. The pole is much taller than your average scratching pole (approximately 85cm from the base to the top) and very sturdy. It doesn’t show any signs of wobble despite my cats sitting on top of it, applying their amble weight to it while scratching and scratching while hanging upside down from the top of it (some pictures are included to show this). My cats are very destructive and I generally find that any scratching toy I purchase them starts showing wear and fluff almost immediately - I’ve included a picture to show the condition after three months of active use and it’s fairing really well. One downside to this product would be is that I’m not sure there’s a way to replace the scratching sections once worn and/ or destroyed - however, if the life of the product is lengthy I’m comfortable with this. One other thing I’d add is it took almost a week for my cats to show any interest in this product at all so don’t give up on it (and feel enraged about wasting your money) if your babies don’t show immediate interest ! If they are scratching your furniture put package tape on it for a period of time; when you take it off make sure they do not see you as they may start again. If I can’t stand the smell, I am quite sure it is just as unappealing to my cats. Also it does not include any instructions for how to attach the base, which comes in two pieces and it isn’t readily apparent how to do this intuitively. I came back to their page to look for instructions and found none. So, without having had the opportunity to assemble and try it yet, I wouldn’t recommend this product for the above reasons. Disappointing, considering the high cost of this product **Q: will this post work for a cat who scratches on door frames?** A: I think others have already answered your question, but I wanted to add that this thing lasts forever too! I bought it 6 years ago, we had 4-5 cats of our own plus several fosters for the first couple of years, then just 2 cats for the next 4. It is now getting frayed enough that I am wanting to replace it, but it is still in great condition overall. The top area get frayed more (little hairs of sisal that end up sticking out) because of how they stretch and scratch but it looks like what another cat tree wrapped in sisal might look like in 6-12 months. Speaking of other types of scratchers, that have a round post with sisal wrapped around it (instead of this weave pattern), my cats all loved that type more originally, but this post is their favorite thing in the work now.
