Remember the POINT of the bit does the cutting. The flutes of the drill are there only for chip removal. The Titanium coating on the bit is a wear layer. It increases the life of the bit but does not increase sharpness or cutting ability. In this application it is no different from any other bit. **Q: How thick is it?** A: The Milescraft drill guide is 1 1/16 inch thick by 4.5 inches long. Since the block is slightly "S" shaped it is roughly 1 3/4 inches wide.. The Milescraft is wider (more stable) and has rubber feet to keep it from sliding around. Possible down side is that it only accommodates 6 drill bit sizes (1/8,3/16,1/4,5/16,3/8,1/2).The all metal Gator tool goes from 1/16 to 3/8 in 1/16 inch increments.
