I have my unit on the wall in the garden and it's very happy there. **Q: I'm trying to turn a piece of my artwork into a clock, it's painted onto 9mm ply, how can I use this item to drill a hole and stay in place to prevent** A: there are two mechanisms supplied. the centre piece which the hands are attached to are different lengths. approx 17mm and 22mm. this is the part that will protrude through the hole drilled. The mechanism is usually attached to whatever you want to make into a clock with small double sided pads approx 40 mm x 15mm x 3mm . although could be any size that suits. This will mean that the centre piece will not protrude 17mm or 22mm but more like 14mm and 19mm. If you really needed to, you could make a recess in the back of the plywood so instead of being 9mm thick it might be just 6mm thick, just in the area of the mechanism. I am having to do something similar as I am using 19mm thick wood to make a clock. As to drilling the hole from memory I think there are instructions about what size to make that. When I removed the old not working mechanism from the clocks I got going again I came across the double sided pads holding them in place, as they were still quite sticky I reused them. a piece of good double sided tape would probably do if you had no double sided pads, double it over to make it twice as thick. I do not know what shape or size your piece of artwork is but I might have to use some small pieces of wood stuck to the back of the clock I am making just to make the clock sit nice and even on the wall otherwise there will be only two pieces in contact with a wall. 1. the mechanism 2. the bit which holds the clock to a screw or nail on the wall. Anyhow these bits will all be out of sight.
