This case is the latter unfortunately. I gapped my plugs using this tool to 0.024". Just for safety, I compared the gaps using my trusted mechanic's tool which I know is spot on. My 0.024" reading was 0.026" on his tool. That's a variance of close to 10% and that makes a huge difference in highly tuned applications and could cost you an engine. Bottom line, don't buy.
