## Questions & Answers

**Q: It has a plastic or aluminum housing?**
A: Yeah, old question, but as said above. Both the 510 and 'older but still available' 410 have aluminum housings. I've had my 410 (same gun, just doesn't take the 'narrow' flat staples or something) for a few years, great stapler. Just ALWAYS pay attention to the staple being loaded and what setting you're using. The wrong 'mode' can cause a jam that wrecks the spring loader mechanism, and ruins it...so i've read. I've never had a problem/jam so far, but always keep an eye on that. Made custom lattice for a deck 'skirt' out of strips from leftover 2x4 PT pine, was perfect for that. Not sure what Dewalt did between the 410 and 510 availability, but 410's are still on the shelf at my local HD. Some are saying the 510 was discontinued, as were the specific 'extra' staples it accepted.

**Q: How is this dwhttr510 different from dwhttr410? fyi - this part is not listed on dewalt website or product catalog.**
A: This DeWalt 510 purchase has become a nightmare for me. Before I go into my rant, that I'll keep brief, I'll answer your question and thank you for asking; your situation answered a problem I had.The `5' and the `4' in the model number evidently relates to the number of types of staples the unit can use; as does the `sub-title' of the respective unit, ie. the 510 is `5-in-1', the 410 is `4-in-1'.The 510 accommodates the `NARROW FLAT' staple, the 410 does not. This is the problem I had that your question enlightened for me. Leading up to my purchase of the 510 I had gone to the DeWalt site for staple compatibility info. My reason for considering a new stapler was so I could trash my Swingline #800 piece of junk. However, I accumulated a full stock of staples, and wanted a stapler that would use my stock, (NOT researching it more is on my shoulders, that was the first of my problems; having faith in a `known top brand' was my second). In Home Depot I played with all the brands and styles, and was impressed with the 510's dual-pressure switch and how easy it was to compress (the 410 did not exist at the time); my Swingline #800 required 3 hands, and STILL smashed more staples than it drove properly !!!Checking staple compatibility at both Home Depot and Amazon left questions in mind, so I went on DeWalt's site. There I found the Model 510 and the DeWalt staples it used. Now that those site pages are GONE (as you also discovered) I can't go back to see what confused me, nor the `small print' that said something to the effect of `discontinued' or `clearance'. The `discontinued' staple matter didn't bother me because I was happy (though apparently still `confused') that the compatibility of other brands of staples would work, including my stock. So, I ordered the DeWalt DWHTTR510 from Amazon. When my shipment from Amazon came in, I immediately got my stock of staples with the intent of stapling EVERYTHING in sight with my new `toy'. WRONG !!! The staples won't fit in the 510 !!!I got back on DeWalt's site to try to find my problem . . . . HARK !!! . . . . the 510 no longer exists, and ALL of the DeWalt part numbers for their staples are different from what they were previously; including those on Amazon and the 510 package !!!This is where your question answered one of mine; the `discontinued' staples I saw were removed from DeWalt's line because they would only fit in the 510 . . . . which was also removed from stock. The 510 was their `Top of the Line' model, now the 410 is (at least, this week). The 2-position power switch is only on the 410 & 510 models. To this day, the DeWalt 510 is sitting staple-less and useless. The project I needed it for was completed with my PoS Swingline 800. Eventually, I'll try to find some `other brand' staples that will work in it; or use it as a hammer. Those reading this, take heed; like many products on Amazon, and the like, this appears to be a dumping ground for discontinued and obsolete items - - - - DO YOUR RESEARCH before hitting `SUBMIT' !!!

**Q: Jams frequently? Any suggestions?**
A: I have not had this problem since I figured out how to insert the staples. In my old staplers I inserted the staples from the rear but that was just not how this one works (insert from the front). The only other thing I can think of is that maybe the staples you are using are the wrong size for this device. I wanted to use staples that were too large and they didn't work, but when I dropped down to the right size range the device pretty much never jams. I also have a DeWalt hammer stapler that loads the same way and that never jams either. Good luck!

**Q: what staples to use?**
A: You have several options. They are all on the side of the stapler. I bought arrow brand nails and staples. Main tip to know is load the staples through the front of the stapler not the back! Took me a lot of time to figure that one.
