We were about to pay over $300 for a new ladder b/c the ladder we had just wasn't stable enough to hang the wreaths we wanted to hang. We bought another product that gave stability to the top of the ladder (which also received 5 stars), and this product. This leveler does just that. It provides a sold placement for the ladder on uneven ground. That provides much more security when climbing and working. These 2 products together were less that 1/3 the cost of a new ladder and gave new life to the ladder we have. The leveling works great--and it is able to be moved from side to side on the ladder depending on your needs. The value is great and it is well made. Should last a long time and give us many more years with the ladder we already had. Review: Perfect problem solver - Installation was perfect as I followed the directions, which are pretty straightforward if you have the basic mechanical abilities. The provided hardware was complete and of good quality. Best of all, the Levelok works perfectly. It is easy to adjust to the precise needed height, it is very stable, and it is easy to change to the opposite side as needed. I can't belief that I fussed with blocks of wood, bricks and other attempts to level my ladder which were much less safe than this accessory, as there is little level ground and many steps on my property. My box says not for these type ladders. Item description says for "most ladders".** A: The manufacturer says:"Note: This Leveler is approved for installation on ladders up to and including Type 1AA (375 lb) duty ratings." **Q: How much extension does it provide? Will it extend your leg at least 6" so it works on steps?** A: Levelok ladder levelers, both Quick Connect and Permanent Mount, extend a full 10" in 3/16" increments. This extension length has been the same since 1995. It is important to know, however, that the Quick Connect Leveler may only provide 7" or 8" of leveling capability if the quick connect "base unit" is installed on a ladder with a longer "rail leg" at the bottom end of ladder.....Levelok Corp. **Q: What are the adjustment increments?** A: The Quick Connect Ladder Leveler is precision cut for 3/16" incremental adjustments. Thank You for your question **Q: So for any ladder that this is being used on, you're basically drilling into the ladder to install nuts/bolts for the mounts?** A: Yes, But, All ladders, even Werner, are not the same. I have one 28 foot Werner aluminum extension ladders and a half dozen fiberglass step ladders and baker scaffolding. I would have had to structurally modify the fiberglass ladder in order to attach the leveler, so, I did not attach a leveler to any of them. Note that it is very handy and comfortable to use a fiberglass step ladder on uneven ground for electrical work. I attached put a leveler on each leg of a 28 foot extension ladder and just checked and there are 6 shims on each leveler base to raise the leveler above the step joints. Note that the base is permanently attached to the ladder leg and it must be parallel to the ladder. The leveling mechanism attaches to the ladder. Since I got 2 base units with each of the 4 leveling systems I purchased, I had 4 left over (after attaching to my scaffolding - see my review of the leveler). So I put 2 on the extension ladder and still have 2 base units left. I use the levelers on the scaffolding whenever I use scaffolding outside. It's about time I solved that problem. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ingenious Quick Connect Ladder Leveler Kit *by V***I on June 6, 2012* Werner PK70-1 LevelLok Quick Connect Ladder Leveler Kit This kit is well made, strong, easy to install and use, has a pro-quality swiveling ladder foot, works well, and is designed to be rust/corrosion resistant. In an email from the manufacturer, here's what they said: ... "the double row of ratcheting teeth and automatic, back-up safety mechanism are both made of stainless steel; extremely resistant to corrosion. The piece (pawl) that engages (locks) into the teeth is made of a specially engineered and processed steel, then plated with a new, innovative corrosion resistant material that lasts 2 times longer than zinc or other common types of metal plating on the market. The double claw, swivel shoe is also treated with the same corrosion resistant material". In spite of the above, since it wouldn't be good for the ratcheting mechanism to get dirty with leaves or other debris, I store the removable leg inside, and sprayed WD-40 on the gearing for even more rust protection. In any case, since the removable leg adds a couple of pounds to the ladder bottom, it only goes one when it's needed. The yard in front of our house slopes down to one side, so when this leveler is needed, it only takes about two minutes to snap it on the side of the ladder with the slope. I lean the ladder against the house and extend the leveler with a foot - the ratcheting mechanism locks it in place. It really is an ingenious device. Even with this device though, if one ladder leg is lower than the other by only an inch or so, I sometimes just use a scrap of wood to bring it level.
