I'm an adult who reads middle-grade novels. I'm an author myself, so I like to stay on top of the books in the genre. And I need to be honest with you... Juniper Berry was not my cup of tea. I just don't like creepy books - and Juniper Berry is definitely in that category.In this twist on the famous Doctor Faustus story, Juniper's movie-star parents (and the parents of the boy next door) sell their souls little by little to a creepy (yes, there's that word again), demonic creature that lives under the tree. In return, they get fame, fortune - whatever their hearts desire. As the story progresses, Juniper's parents become more and more self-centered - and more and more distant - as they give more and more of themselves to Mr. Creepy.(In case you're wondering, he lives off their souls. Their souls - and the souls of others like them - keep him alive.)Yeah, creepy.I normally would set a book like this aside. But I kept reading, because I got caught up in the plight of Juniper and her parents. I had to know if they would ever be free of the demonic creature under the tree - and recover the loving, carefree relationship they once had. But how could a girl like Juniper face off against something so powerful, crafty and demonic - and win?You'll have to read it for yourself to find out. But be warned... the author writes a vivid story that sucks you in. Before you know it, you, too, will be turning the pages as fast as you can - and hoping for a happy ending. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Case of the Lost Souls *by B***E on Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2015* Juniper Berry knew her parents were changing, and not for the better. While trying to find out why, Juniper meets Giles. Together they find out the worst possible thing, his parents are changing in the very same way. The writer involves the reader in the constant struggle of good and evil. Only evil seems to be winning. Be prepared to enter the struggle.
