As one of the best players in school, all hopes are on him to win the regional high school tournament, but winning is not what Smile really wants to do. Will the fierce competition to be number one bring out his best or drive him away from the game? Ping Pong is Taiyo Matsumoto’s masterwork reflection on friendship and self-discovery, presented here in two volumes, featuring color art, the bonus story "Tamura" and an afterword by the original Japanese series editor.Translated by Michael Arias, director of Tekkonkinkreet.Makoto “Smile” Tsukimoto and his friend Yutaka “Peco” Hoshino have been playing table tennis since they were kids, but as they enter high school, they find that the game has changed. Seeing potential in them that they themselves don’t fully realize, the coach recruits them for the school team. Bringing out their best will mean challenging the top players from rival schools in the summer tournament, including an ace Chinese exchange student who almost made the Olympic team. With the pressure on, can Smile and Peco take the heat and make it into the finals? Review: It's one of the best stories about passion ever written. - Ping pong is an absolutely fantastic manga and anime that follows several character's journey and lead up to a ping pong tournament. All of them play for different reasons and want to get something different out of life. There is subtlety down to how a player holds the paddle saying their emotional state and outlook on life at that time. It's a master class in character writing, and character development. It's a must read for me on many levels. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #412,714 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #5,729 in Mangas #13,196 in Comics | | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 239 Reviews | ## Images ![Ping Pong, Vol. 1 (Volume 1) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81145S-DG2L.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Edizione Maestosa *by D***U on 8 August 2022* Ero indeciso se prendere questa o l'edizione italiana in cofanetto, alla fine ho optato per questa in due volumi in inglese più per il prezzo che per altro. This is a little like the movie Goal (even though goal was about soccer) Ping Pong is just the front but the real story is about the players, a little like Slam dunk but less basketball (ping pong in this case). This is more about friendship and rivalry. Respect for other players in a game you love. I'd definitely recommend whoever enjoys reading a slice of life story to read this. ## Frequently Bought Together - Ping Pong, Vol. 1 (1) - Ping Pong, Vol. 2 (2) - Tekkonkinkreet: Black & White 30th Anniversary Edition --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.at/products/298929567-ping-pong-vol-1-volume-1](https://www.desertcart.at/products/298929567-ping-pong-vol-1-volume-1) --- *Product available on Desertcart Austria* *Store origin: AT* *Last updated: 2026-10-13*
