Twice a day I spray with cold water and severely stir them up - if you don't they mold badly. I feed on the second day - if longer the roots penitrate the screen making removal very difficult. (and a mess to clean up with a stiff brush) I can't immagine using this for microgreens. My micros are planted in compost - about 1/2 to 1 inch deep - seed spread thickly - when they reach the desired height I use a sissor to cut them just above the root so no compost comes with the leaves . I do lettuce (butter crunch), beet, chard. Then toss the "mat" into the compost to be reused. **Q: Don't they need to breathe like is their any space needed for the seeds to breath. I guess i am just used to the jars?** A: There is plenty of room to breathe. I have been sprouting for years and this is one of nicest sets I have used. I actually bought 2 of these so I could grow four different types of sprouts at a time. From the smallest seed to the bigger ones this function very well. **Q: is the stand stainless?** A: Yes, it is stainless steel. I did a lot of research before I purchased this Sprouting Kit and I have been very happy with it. The sprouts grow like the ones you buy at the grocery store, not jumbled like the ones in jars or tubes.
