The 4 stars is because, even without anything on the shelves, the brackets did not hold the shelves completely straight so I had to put a brace on the sides. However, I love the way they look despite that. I think they would be great for a smaller area. I used these in kitchen I managed to have two very large green glass shelves 45 inches long about 8 inches deep. I hung the first shelf and need to take the time to hang the second one. I am using 3 each. These need to be level with each other glass unlike wood does not bend so if you don't have a level buy one before you install. I am sure Amazon has levels for sale. But not designed to carry even modest weight — the lower part of the bracket gradually bends down and out under load. Also, the brackets come with round head machine screws for tightening, instead of the flat head screws for which the brackets were designed. The round heads protrude underneath and so detract from an otherwise clean look.
