Review: Best I've ever heard! - Grado Labs Prestige Series SR125X open back headphones are the best I've ever heard! Incredible detail and clarity in music and vocals, sounds so lifelike I feel like I am in the front row at a concert or in the studio with the musicians! Acoustic instruments in particular sound amazing. Vocals are so crisp that I rarely have to look up the lyrics to understand what a singer is saying, something I often did with what I previously considered the best headphones I ever heard, Sennheiser's HD 598 phones. Many say the "Grado Sound" is overly bright, harsh, as their phones have a boosted upper mid range. While these 125X did sound a little too bright the first two weeks I listened, either my ears grew accustomed to it or the phones were "broken in." These phones make it fun to listen to music, and I have only listened to my Sennheiser phones as a comparison - the Grado phones sound better - and sound so good I don't even bother playing music on my big floor speakers anymore! Some reviewers say the 125X lacks bass, but that is not true. Bass is clean, no distortion, rich sounding. Drums sound fantastic, and I can feel the pounding of drums in my ears as well as, if not better, than on my big floor speakers, feel the movement of air in my ears! I have listened to Sinead O'Connor, The Cranberries, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, The Beatles, Carpenters, Gordon Lightfoot; and the vocals are so intimate, the instruments so clear, it is like the groups are actually in my room performing! Stereo separation is the best I have ever heard on any headphone, and I hear details in music that I am extremely familiar with, that I never heard before. I am 68 years old, so maybe my old ears like the boosted midrange better than a younger person might. The only drawback to these phones is the short cable, which is only suitable if you are really close to your music source. I ordered a six-foot J&D headphones adaptor extension cable, 1/4-inch to 3.5 mm, to plug the Grado into since I sit eight feet from my stereo receiver. The headphone cord on the Grado is also very stiff and thick, but unlike other reviewers, I don't find it a problem. As for comfort, they do fit pretty snugly on the head, but I prefer that over it being loose. I wear glasses, which I sometimes take off to listen to music as it is a tight fit. Again, I prefer it being tight, it is better fit on my head than the loose HD 598 I also own. Bottom line, these are super sounding headphones especially for $175, much cheaper than I paid for the HD 598 phones (which are no longer made) .
Review: Great headphones. Clear sound. - I have owned many brands of headphones over the years. Koss (from the 70's when Koss was a premier brand), 3 pair of Sennheiser’s, Sony, etc. (I have been an electronics geek for 50 years.) Grado is my favorite. If one looks at the internet and explores headphones, one will see all kinds of tech sites, with all kinds of technical measurements, using those as criteria as to what is best to buy. Ignore all of those. I do design and build my own speakers, including the crossover designs. I do understand technical specs, but they have to be put in perspective. Best thing to do is simply listen to them. The one the sounds best to you, is the one that is right for you. That is the only thing that matters. The Grado's sound the best to me. These headphones have a clarity to them in all frequencies. Enough bass but not overpowering, great highs, and good midrange, which is where most of the music is anyway. I hear things I do not hear on other headphones. The only downside is the cord is stiff, due to the 8-wire configuration, but I got used to it. Try out a pair to see if they are right for you. Remember to listen to the music, not the sounds, and don't get to involved in anything else.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great headphones. Clear sound.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ My new almost daily driver!
*by D***A on March 7, 2023*

This is an AMAZING pair of headphones... in the right environment. And that's the main caveat. To say that the audio from these headphones leaks is an understatement. Anyone near you will hear EVERYTHING that you are listening to. And also all noise will leak through as well. So these are not for use out and about. These are for use at home, in a quiet room. That being said. When you're in the right listening environment, these headphones SING! They really shine with music that is grand and wide (think things like Jazz, Classical, Soundtrack, anything with a choir, etc). Now if you're a bass head, you might as well stop and look somewhere else. But if you like accurate and clean sounding bass, you can't go wrong with these. They have enough bass to enjoy pop, rock, though maybe a bit lacking for things like edm. Though that could be corrected with an external DAC/AMP like a Fiio Q3 or something similar. The soundstage is super wide! I really feel like I'm being surrounded by sound, even when compared to something like a AKG Q701 these feel so much more wide. Which with a super wide soundstage, there's something else these are great for: ASMR! I've never understood asmr videos, but after trying one video with these headphones, I finally understand. I can actually feel like I'm there listening to someone. The same goes for other 3D audio experiences. I've never been a huge fan of PS5's 3D tempest audio engine, but now I can actually hear things around me with these headphones. This wide soundstage can be a double edged sword however. Music with really bad mixing will sound bad. There's no way around it. If the music is poorly mixed and mastered, you WILL HEAR IT, and it will sound BAD. An unfortunate side effect of having a headphone that really reveal all details in your audio. Here's what I dislike. It's a very thick and unwieldy cable. Also it seems as though they attached the cable with the headphones laying flat. So when you twist the cups to sit on your ears, the cable twists and creates an annoying twist at the junction where the cable splits for left and right ear. Also I've found that if you have a beard, hairs can get caught in the braided sleeve of the cable, which can cause an uncomfortable pull when you move the cable the wrong way. Both of these things are very annoying , especially using the headphones when laying down. For both of these things I'm taking off a star for comfort. Overall I would recommend these headphones if you want a daily driver to use at home. If you need something when you're out and about, I would look somewhere else. Excellent for: Music, Video games, ASMR Bad for: Traveling, outdoor use, loud environments, anywhere that's not at home, music that is mixed bad
