Is it 5% or 10% or 30% ?** A: Licorice (glycyrrhiza) root is the dried and ground rhizome and root portions of Glycyrrhiza glabra. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice is a form of licorice that has been processed to remove some amount of glycyrrhizin. Gycyrrhizin has been reduced because it can cause several health issues including: Elevated blood pressure that can potentially lead to stroke Low potassium causing myopathy (muscle disoders) Irregular heart rhythms Pre term labor I personally called Pure Encapsulations and was informed that the amount of glycyrrhizin is =/< 3%. **Q: How can dgl be effective if it's not chewable? as a capsule, it will not open until it's in the intestines, but it's needed in the esophagus/stomach.** A: I took this supplement—1 about 15-30 minutes before each meal—for 3 months for heartburn. I usually emptied the capsule into a bit of water and drank it.
