Comes complete with 1 bag of wood shavings and placement instructions. It also features a special perch for owls to roost on and look out. Larger houses 4H, 5H, 6H and 6BH all have shavings in them because normally these birds do not bring anything but feathers to the nest. All houses need to be cleaned out before the next season starts. We suggest doing it in the spring so the birds can roost in them during the winter. 22-inch by 8.25-inch by 11.25-inch. One has been occupied by flying squirrels (we're in Pennsylvania) which are too cute to kick out, so I bought another. We'll see how this goes.Construction is great - even comes with a bag of wood chips. Just think through how you're going to mount it before you're on the ladder. This house came with good details on how to mount the house (height, etc.) but the other house came with a few other more personalized suggestions like East facing and personal experiences with birds.So if you have room for 2, try 2 different manufacturers!
