The adapter has 43mm threads, so a 43-52 step-up ring will allow you to use popular 52mm filters (e.g., a polarizer). A screw-on 52mm hood will reduce sun flare. You probably can't use 43mm filters and hoods directly because of vignetting, but there's no problem after the step-up and most SLR photographers already have lots of 52mm accessories. I use it to couple the camera to a spotting scope for digiscoping, but I'm sure it's fine as a filter holder. It is a major feature of this camera system for digiscopers, making mating the camera to the scope very simple.
