## Description

Digitally re-mastered edition of this 2003 album. Fans across the globe consider Catharsis, the sophomore album by Oregon's Yob, to be the band's best work and one of the finest Doom Metal releases of the genre. The group even performed Catharsis in it's entirety at the 2012 Roadburn Festival to much acclaim. However, as the label that originally issued the album folded, it has remained out of print for years and hard to come by... until now. Profound Lore is proud to unveil the long-awaited reissue of Yob's sought-after cult classic, 10 years after it's initial release. Re-mastered from the original tapes by legendary grunge godfather Tad Doyle, Catharsis sounds heavier and more monstrous than ever. Liner notes by the band's founder and mastermind Mike Scheidt are complimented by new artwork by designer Aaron Edge, making this CD the definitive edition of one of the most colossal American doom metal releases of the last decade from one of the most important bands in heavy music today.

    Lost Yob gem rereleased

*by S***D on Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2014*

Back in my day as a teenager/college punk we expected our bands to put something new out at least once a year. Even at that rate because the market wasn't totally flooded like it is now, releases were events if the band was big enough. Now, bands with the exception of Motorhead can't seem to manage to release 45 or 50 minutes of new material in any more than four to five year increments, thereby guaranteeing that they'll have to work to redevelop their bases as fans lose interest. Yob however are suddenly giving us two albums this year - a totally new CD a bit later, and the release and remaster of their second album "Catharsis", long out of print and a complete surprise to me. I thought I had all their CD's and didn't know this one existed, thinking "Illusions of Motion" was the sophomore effort. So I was delighted to see this album available. And I was not disappointed. Yob are one of those doom outfits that is nominally doom, but deal with textures and slabs of unbelievably heavy music that make their sound unique among a flood of doom imitators. You either love Yob or hate them strictly on their own terms, as they are almost impossible to define by comparison. For me, perhaps only Sleep, the legendary band of Matt Pike's before High On Fire whom are touring again periodically, by the way, can be put somewhere near Yob's wall of sound. You won't have any videos or hit singles as the three songs all are over 20 minutes long. Far from dull, however, as each tune is an excursion, a world where time is suspended at least while the CD is playing. Seldom can a listener be lulled and brutally assaulted at the same time, but Mike Scheidt and company pull it off. This is a must for Yob completists while you can still get it, and a must for all fans of the doom genre who want the best doom can offer. Some critics list Electric Wizard as the world's heaviest band, but compared to Yob EW is light weight yogurt. I can't wait for the new followup to the great "Atma".
