## Description

Daniel doesn’t believe the woods behind his new home are haunted by an evil witch and her terrifying beast. But then his little sister disappears . . . and it’s up to him to find her. Mary Downing Hahn’s popular page-turner will thrill readers who love spooky stories. They say that a ghost witch lives in the woods, up on the hill. They say her companion has a pig skull for a face and stands taller than a man, his skeleton gleaming in the moonlight. They say that the witch takes young girls, and no one ever sees them again. Daniel doesn’t believe the stories. He figures the kids on the bus are just trying to scare him since he’s new. Still, he wishes his family had never moved here—their house is a wreck, Mom and Dad keep fighting, and his little sister, Erica, spends most of her time talking to her creepy doll. But when Erica disappears into the woods one day, Daniel knows something is terribly wrong. Has she been “took”? Mary Downing Hahn is one of the most popular middle grade authors in the world, winner of numerous state awards as well as the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction (for Stepping on the Cracks ) and the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award (for Closed for the Season ). Also available as a graphic novel!

Review: This is a great book - While I was enjoying a conversation about books with my family and talking about ghost stories, my nephew who I didn't think was really paying attention to what we were saying, told me you want to read a good ghost story? I said sure. He said you have to read this book, gave me the tittle of this book. He told me he had read it and automatically thought of where we live and how I would love to read this book and maybe I would see the resemblance. He was right. I couldn't put this book down. The story telling and the way this author writes made me not once think I was reading a young adult book. I now have something to talk to with my nephew. I love this book. I will look into more of her writings.
Review: a ghost story is an amazing book, why - Took: A Ghost Story By: Matthew Haughton Introduction This book, took: a ghost story is an amazing book, why? Because of its bad times like when the mom was sad when Erica went missing, or good times like when Daniel made a new friend, this book’s mysterious storyline, characters, its conflicts and, most importantly its plot. I hope this essay helps you to decide to read this book The Characters There are any characters in this book but the main characters are, Daniel, he’s a brave, worried, 12-year-old boy who is scared that his sister might be lost maybe even dead or he might not see her again in fifty years. Erica, she is a little girl that likes to play with dolls, when she was kidnapped she wasn’t much use to auntie she couldn’t do anything right old auntie beat her, because of that Erica has bruises on her face. Erica didn’t want to move to Virginia but after she was found she made a friend and started to like Virginia. Old auntie is a conjured woman that kidnap’s girls like Erica every fifty years and most of those girls die two weeks after being found, but it did not happen to Selene. The mom didn’t do much in the book but, she is a smoker at times, she worries about her kids like any mother should, and she had mood swings when Erica was missing, she worked as a real estate agent. The dad is like the mom because he wasn’t in the book much either but some stuff he did was, that he played military video games, computer games, he had a job at an office but then he got laid off that’s how the family lost money, after they moved he got a job at home depot. The Plot The plot to this story is good I like it but some people might not like it but I am going to say it anyway. The main characters move from Connecticut to Virginia because of money issues. After they moved Erica and Daniel were bullied at school. The mom and dad had no friends when they moved to Virginia. There was a very old lady that lived in the woods and kidnapped girls to be her slaves every fifty years. Erica gets kidnapped by the very old lady named old auntie. Daniel tries to find Erica but instead he finds a girl named Selene Estes. She disappeared fifty years ago but she looks the same as the day she disappeared. Daniel will do anything to get his sister back, he went to a relative of old auntie named Ms. Perkins he went there with one of his neighbor Mrs. O’Neil. Mrs. Perkins told Daniel to do something to trick old auntie get into her house get Erica and sprint out of there without getting caught Daniel did what Mrs. Perkins told him to do even though he was scared he was able to save his sister. Conflict When the Anderson family moved to Virginia there were many conflicts. The conflicts were between Daniel and Erica and the mom and dad. Daniel and Erica’s relationship became bad when they moved. Daniel and Erica started fighting and arguing. The mom and dad’s relationship also became bad when they moved to Virginia. This happened because the mom was not happy they moved. The relationship got worst when Erica was taken. The mom and dad barely spoke to each other because the mom blamed the dad for Erica’s disappearance. Conclusion Today I helped you decide if you think the book Took: a ghost story is a good book by telling you about the characters the conflicts and most important the plot thank you for reading my review.
