My problem was I did not have an easy way to monitor whether my primary sump pump was working normally. I was easily able to mount it to one of my riser PVC pipes using the included zip ties. I placed it so that it is slightly above the highest water level allowed by my primary sump pump. Now I can receive email and push notifications on my phone, as well as an audible alert whenever my primary sump pump stops working. I feel more secure. The on position is when the float is closest to the end where the cable is, you can simply flip it over if you happen to need it to work as 'normally on' and truing off when the water level goes above it. It is only suitable for low voltages and current so if you need to control a pump you'll need to do so via a relay switch.
