Review: Results may vary - I bought this in hopes of dying some Burl wood with the grain showing through. Dye went on, I allowed it ample time to dry. Which was overnight. And I went to sand it as the grain had risen, and the dye had pretty much sanded mostly out. Creating a worn denim like look. Although cool, not what I was going for. Thankfully I was able to sand it all the way out easily and just use RIT dye instead. Which worked amazingly. So again, results may vary. It was my first time using it and maybe (read: probably definitely) did something incorrect. I still have half of a very expensive two ounce bottle. So maybe I’ll do some research and try again one day. My review should in no way reflect the quality or lack of in this product. All experiences I had were probably the result of inexperience. I thought I did my research enough, but I guess I didn’t. My review should not reflect on the quality of this product as I’m sure if used and cared for correctly, the results could and will be different. Pics included are of my testing I did prior to going a different route. Although it still looks kinda good, just not what I was going for. I used it as a base with denatured alcohol and that worked very well. I also used it as a toner in the first four coats of my water based poly (halcyon in this case). At first I was finding that there were stringy clots forming in my mixture. I was able to remedy this by first diluting the dye in water then adding the mixture of transtint and water to my poly. It’s supposed to be able to mix with others but just be aware that you may have to do this before you ruin a large batch due to the reaction. I usually take a bunch of empty jars and put about half cup of denatured alcohol into each and do a variety of concentrations and then test on scrap wood. it may take only a 1/4 teaspoon of dye to get the desired depth. Take note of every teaspoon and drops you use so you can repeat if necessary. **Q: Can I use this to even out color over wood that I oil stained and looks blotchy?** A: It is an extremely dense dye and it will darken the light and dark areas, so you must be careful. You may have problems due to the oil stain as this works best as an alcohol or water dye. **Q: I need to darken tile grout. Can I mix this in a water based tile sealer?** A: It is a water base friendly product but I have never tried that. I think it would work but try it in a small portion of your material to see first! Use small portions meaning "drops." **Q: Can I tint linseed oil with this?** A: You might go to the website for clearer direction. It seems to be the blochiest tint I have used and dries back dull!
