A: This thermometer is not to be used in an oven when cooking food.

**Q: does the thermometer need to be immersed in something or will it read the air temperature also?**
A: It does both, it will have a base starting point of the air around the thermometer until used. Then to be immersed to get a reading on the item your reading. However if what your reading does not submerge the knot indentation it will not give you a accurate reading.

A: This product contains no mercury
