If you plan on using it for bass in freshwater, get a smaller size. This reel can handle bonito, striper, salmon, and other big fish. They are all well used in the surf, inshore, and pier. The drags are solid and smooth. The reels are not featherweight, but contain NO plastic gears or parts inside. Nice smooth retrieve. Crank bearings are sealed, which is nice.Learn to do the necessary maintenance, and rinse with fresh water after salt use, and they will last a long time. It only takes a couple small screwdrivers and some reel grease.
