## Overview

Dow Corning DC 4 Electrical Insulating Compound is a premium silicone-based grease designed to provide exceptional dielectric strength and moisture resistance. It maintains a stable grease-like consistency across extreme temperatures (-55ºC to +200ºC) and adheres effectively to a wide range of materials, making it ideal for sealing and lubricating electrical connectors, battery terminals, and O-rings in demanding professional environments.

## Description

Grease like material containing an inert silica filler in combination with selected polydimethyl silicone fluids APPLICATIONS A moisture proof seal for aircraft, automotive and marine ignition systems and spark plug connections, disconnection junctions in electrical wiring systems also in electrical assemblies and terminals.Used as a seal and lubricant for cable connectors, battery terminals, rubber door seals, switches and rubber and plastic O-rings and as a assembly lubricant for various metal-on-plastic and metal-on-rubber combinations

Review: Helps prevent corrosion and keeps contacts clean - I bought a 1962 Mooney airplane once from a fellow who had a dry dock where they repaired barges and other vessels used in salt water. He gave me a tube of DOW DC 4 electrical insulating compound and suggested I use it on every power electrical contact I took apart. The Airframe & Powerplant mechanic who inspected my work bought some DOW #4 and started using it in his shop. That half tube lasted years and when it was gone I tried a variety of other greases, silicone, and electrical compounds. None lasted as well or worked as well at the DOW #4. I've used this on several late 50's Triumph TR3s with those darn Lucas bullet connectors which always get corroded. This won't remove corrosion but used when making repairs or replacing connectors it helps prevent corrosion and stays on the connection. Some of the products I tried just didn't last. After six months you could not tell that anything had been applied. Some of the silicone greases just dried up and were hard. I also use a dab of DOW #4 on the modern 'water proof' electrical connectors. They go together and come apart easier. I just replaced the entire wire harness in a late 50's Austin and every power connection (Lucas bullet connectors again) and socket in the entire car got some DOW #4. Under the dash and interior I used just a light wipe on the connections. In the engine compartment and under the car the connections, especially the ground connections, got a slight dab. This tube will probably last as long as I am still working on vehicles but if it doesn't I'll get more and not try any alternatives. This works, and lasts.
Review: Buy two. - Man, I love this stuff. After I’d bought a former military HMMWV, I began going through the harnesses replacing the cracked/rotted Packard connectors, making harnesses for additional things like backup lights, light bar, etc. One of the sayings among FMV owners is “if it’s electric, clean it, if it’s rubber, change it” to which I add, use some Deoxit on the contacts and Dow Corning DC4 dielectric grease on the rubber parts. I’ve been led to believe that, unlike lighter silicone oils/sprays, this won’t soften/degrade the rubber connectors and it helps make a more easily removed connection and helps keep water out. Makes the rubber look shinier and new for years. I’ve used it on door seals, rubber grommets, wheel o-rings and more. You can use it on stainless steel screws/bolts to keep the nuts from galling. It’s really great stuff, also great for schmearing on battery terminals to keep them from oxidizing. I went through an entire tube in about six months, half the next one in the next year or so, just bought another tube “for later.” Try it, you’ll like it.
