Review: IT'S BETTER THAN STARCH - I am a QUILTER and I noticed that I'm not the greatest at cutting or sewing a straight line. Kimberly, at The Fat Quarter Shop gives good tips for making quilts. She sprays her fabric wet with spray starch and leaves it to dry. She then irons it and cuts it out. The pieces stay nice and firm as you're sewing them and I found this to be a game changer for me. I used the StaFlo liquid starch that came in the blue plastic container. I then hung it up on a clothes rack like you use to do a small amount of laundry. That worked great and then I started making my own starch with cornstarch. I would use one box (which is one pound) of cornstarch. I would put the fabric in the mix after it was cooled off. I would wring out as much water as possible and then hang up to dry. Then, I ironed it. It was so nice and crisp and easier to cut and much easier to sew without stretching. This was a whole lot of trouble and time consuming but I discovered TERIAL MAGIC. It does make the fabric stiff...as stiff as you would want it. I love it. It cuts down on all that time I spent with starch products. The main reason I found TERIAL MAGIC is because the liquid starch was about $1.95 at Walmart and they quit stocking it. Then, I found out that there is some kind of shortage on starch and StaFlo doesn't even make it anymore. The boxed powdered cornstarch doubled in price and it all just keeps going up when and if you can find it. TERIAL MAGIC is beyond five stars. It couldn't be better...and it washes right out.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be used to mold fabric into shapes to create headpieces?**
A: It stiffens fabric to become consistency of a piece of thick paper. It is not a permanent bond - it washes out. I suppose it could hold the headpiece temporarily in position enabling your ability to stitch pieces together but it will not permanently hold that position.

**Q: What are the ingredients? I am wondering if it contains typical allergens?**
A: You'll have to zoom into the product picture and read the ingredients because I don't know.

**Q: Has anyone used this for quilting? I am wondering how it would stabilize bias edges for half and quarter square triangles.**
A: Would work wonders for your stabilization, fabulous product, I never intent to be out of this product as long as I am able to quilt. Highly recommend!

**Q: Could you use this in place of liquid starch to hang fabric on a wall?**
A: You mean like wallpaper glue? It isn't as thick as liquid starch, and it's probably more expensive. I use it to stabilize fabric before embroidery and also as a general spray starch when it is diluted. But heat (like ironing) or drying time is required. I honestly don't think it would work to attach fabric to a wall.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fabric starch

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Still works when diluted!
*by K***. on April 7, 2026*

I am a quilter. I don't like the best press brand of fabric treatment. In my search for a good product that makes fabric more stiff but isn’t actually corn starch, I tried Terial Magic. It works straight up (very stiff) and diluted (less stiff than straight up but still enough stiffness). I’ve tried dilutions with 1 part Terial Magic plus 2 or 3 parts water. Both worked well for me in straight seams. Diluting it makes it actually more economical than other brands. Cutting is more precise. Fabric doesn’t slip during sewing. My seams and points match more. For large amounts of fabric (a king quilt’s worth), I make 3-4 cups (1 cup Terial Magic plus 2-3 cups water) in whatever large pot will fit my fabric (usually a 6-8 quart pan works for me), add my fabric to the pot, squishing all the fabric in, maneuver the fabric until it’s all mostly damp, put the lid on and let it sit for half an hour, check for dry spots, maneuver the fabric again, let it sit until no more liquid will soak up (another hour or so and I usually don’t have much, if any, left), then hang it on a drying rack with a towel under it to catch any drips. I use a steam iron to get the wrinkles out before cutting. Yes, it has a fragrance, but I don’t dislike the smell. Yes, it’s a little sticky when wet, but it washes off easily. Terial Magic is my go-to starch for straight seams. But, I’m still trying to figure out a dilution for curves!
