You need to use a drill. The holes for the speaker are really small. 5 min with a drill (detach the front case first) to enlarge the holes fixes that and makes it plenty loud. But, no volume control. **Q: What does it sound like?** A: I use it in my kindergarten classroom and it’s fun for that purpose. Sound is medium quality I would say. We use mainly the applause mode. **Q: Is there a way that this can be put on a keychain?** A: It doesn’t have a keychain ring. **Q: Does it take batteries ? If so what kind?** A: Yes. It takes 3 LR44 batteries. The access panel is in the back. You will need a tiny phillips screwdriver to access the battery compartment.
