## Questions & Answers

**Q: How is this used? I am new to breeding and my miniature schnauzer is about to have her puppies. She is about 13lbs .**
A: Thank you for your question!

I would be more than happy to assist you in any way I can.

This is a fast absorbing calcium in a gel base for dogs showing signs of extreme calcium deficiency, and it is ideal to use during whelping or with fast-growing puppies. You want to give 1-3ml depending on the severity of the condition. Use those 1 to 3 mL initially, depending on the severity of the condition, and follow up with additional servings as needed. The dosage is not based on weight, but rather you pet's condition.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A MUST HAVE for Dog Breeders! Expecting a Litter? Order it now!
*by D***S on February 13, 2019*

Calsorb is a MUST HAVE for me as a Dog Breeder. It can prevent pre-eclampsia (hypocalcemia) also known as "Milk Fever" which is directly caused by a calcium deficiency after and during whelping puppies. Calsorb is especially important to have on hand if you're seeing signs of ineffective labor, nervousness or muscle twitching during or after whelping. It is important to know not to give any form of calcium supplements during pregnancy because this can actually halt natural calcium production and ne the cause of a calcium level deficiency and milk fever but I HIGHLY recommend using it during and after whelping.I give up to 3 doses during early labor (before the first puppy arrives but after for sure signs of early labor have started) and then again after every 1-2 puppies. I'll also give her a calcium supplement pill at the same time with the added magnisium, zinc and vitamin D to help with Calsorb absorption. Giving Calcium alone can actually hinder absorption. For my 55 lb dog I'll give 3ml's per dose. I believe less is probably needed for smaller dogs but there's actually not a lot of info about appropriate dosing listed on the label which is pretty unfortunate. It just says administer 1-3 ml's per dose.I recommend reading the articles on the Revival Animal Health website about 'How to use Calcium during whelping" and also their article called 'How to use Calcium after whelping" for more info.Calsorb is definitely cheaper then the competition but it works just as well for me especially if I couple it with the magnesium, vit D supplement which is why the other brand I believe charges TWICE the price.. because it already contains Vitamin D and Magnesium in it but a $10 bottle of 100 vitamins can do the same thing if given at the same time and save you money. I buy several tubes of Calsorb at a time so this savings helps me immensely and it still works very well. The bitter taste has caused vomiting in some breeders experience so I wrap the Calsorb gel in a piece of sandwich meat and they'll usually gulp it down quickly. I've never had problems with them vomiting it up afterwards. With females who won't take food during whelping, you can always try giving it with some Dyne which is a High Calorie liquid supplement for dogs or another liquid to mask the taste... like maybe beef or chicken broth in a oral dosing syringe?I 100% believe having Calsorb on hand has saved a few of my girls from either having c-sections or milk fever or worse and it is an absolute MUST HAVE for me. I wish I would of known about the importance of calcium during whelping sooner and so that's why I'm writing this review hopefully to help my fellow dog breeders and their wonderful Moms. After whelping if you notice Mom is acting nervous, getting up and down, can't relax, not bonding with her puppies or refusing to nurse for example laying on her belly instead of her side so the puppies can't nurse, muscle tremors, unsteady gait or clumsy steps... I definitly suggest administering Calsorb as soon as possible because these are all signs of low calcium. After the Calsorb I'll usually see a marked improvement very quickly and continue to supplement her everyday during nursing. Of course if you don't see improvement after several doses call your vet right away. Milk fever can be very deadly if left untreated. Calcium is the cure.Good Luck! This is a MUST HAVE!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ MUST HAVE ON HAND IF YOU ARE BREEDING!!!
*by C***N on September 22, 2016*

PROS: FAST ACTING, Easy to administer, gel absorbs easily, they can't spit it out very easily, inexpensive. Using may possibly prevent the need for a emergency c-section due to delayed labor.CONS:Dogs don't like the taste. But it's a soft gel substance so it melts quickly in their mouth. If you give too at once they will throw up, especially if they are in the process of whelping.WHY USE IT, WHAT IS IT FOR?This is a great fast acting product that is a MUST for any breeder! A whelping female will quickly use up her calcium stores during the stress of whelping and immediatly after with milk production. Calcium is needed to help clear down to the cellular level to help with labor. I have learned at breeding seminars given by top vets in the county that during whelping and immediately after a dog will use huge amounts of their stored calcium. You can almost not give them too much calcium at this point. Discuss this treatment with your vet before administering any treatment plan. If you are breeding you should ALWAYS have a close relationship with your vet AND have and emergency vet on call However, as a very experienced breeder, I will give calcium once true and actual labor has started. DO NOT GIVE THIS PRODUCT OR ANY OTHER CALCIUM PRODUCT BEFORE A DOG IS IN LABOR!!! This is VERY important! Calcium supplements given prior to whelping will actually cause a dog's body to stop storing its own calcium tricking into thinking there is an overage. Then when the calcium is needed during labor and after she won't have it available. During whelping and right after Calcium suppliment is GOOD, before whelping BAD!I have used Calsorb for years and it does it's job well. It is critical if you have a female that gets shaky or acts "out of it" after whelping, she NEEDS CALCIUM! Or if she is in labor and has one or two puppies and clearly has more waiting but labor stalls. Give calcium! You never know for sure if a dog will need it. Either have it on hand BEFORE the puppies are due just in case. Or make a habit of giving to every female during whelp to prevent problems.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BEST Supplement for Stalled Labor or Difficult Labor! It Works!
*by A***R on November 27, 2020*

The BEST product for stalled maternal labor at 1am with all vets closed! I purchased this at my vet's recommendation, and have not had an "unable to be delivered" puppy since. Uterine exhaustion, awkward puppy placement, larger puppy...3cc's, when she seems to be trying to deliver and can't, almost always results in a puppy born in 20 minutes or less. Con - it seems to often cause them to vomit shortly after giving it to them. That doesn't affect the positive effect on labor, though. Tried another "balanced" supplement - it smelled better, but was so thick that the moms could refuse to swallow it, and would do so when in labor. This is the best go-to supplement for labor emergencies!
