This stylus pressure gauge was designed for vinyl record purist's looking for a gauge capable of accurate record-level measurement of VTF. When the VTF gauge is used with the detachable cantilevered extension arm, VTF is measured approximately 3 mm from the surface of the turntable platter, close to the height of a stylus tip resting on an LP record (LP's have a typical thickness range of 1.9 mm to 2.9 mm). The tracking force gauge has a resolution of 0.005 g - providing precise VTF measurement. To reduce interaction with magnets in MM and MC cartridges, the casing of the VTF gauge is manufactured from durable plastic; the detachable stainless steel cantilevered extension arm is made from a non-ferromagnetic grade of stainless steel. Two masses, 20 g and 5 g, are included for gauge re-calibration (a straightforward 1-minute procedure) and to allow verification of gauge readings prior to VTF measurement. With a larger calibration mass, the gauge can be calibrated for use up to 100 g. A polymer pad, adhesively bonded to the measuring platform, protect the stylus tip and allows accurately centering the stylus tip on the measuring platform.
