I'm not sure if I'd use it free-standing though. I use it as a portable big screen for my laptop when playing video games with friends. Works great. It's not perfectly taught, but given the portability it is more than good enough for my needs. I hang it upside down off of a heavy duty light stand so I can adjust the height depending on where I am. At each end of the base there are loops to hook through. The only problem I had was that the bottom of the screen would bow outward a little bit. The effect was the screen wasn't level. This was easily fixed with a small bungee cord(about 8 inches)that I wrapped around the light pole and attached to the finger hooks that are at the "top" of the screen (which is upside down). They put the hooks and finger loops just in the right spots to make this a very "hackable" screen. The hardware is not the most industrial, but if you are careful it is very versatile.
