## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the maximum voltage that can be used with this solenoid?  And how much current does it draw?**
A: Since it is a simple coil, there is no intrinsic max voltage.  One can use any voltage up to a realistic limit. For example,  I have easily put 12Vdc or even 24Vdc on these.  I would not recommend any higher than that.   They are rated to 4.5Vdc.. which means they tolerate a continuous 4.5Vdc applied to them without over heating.  Beyond that, the "on" time needs to be reduced to allow the coil to cool between actuations.   at 12Vdc, the coil gets noticeably warmer after just 30 seconds or so.   I measured the samples that I received, the pull-in voltage (voltage at which the rod will retract with no load) is 2.3v (and needs 225ma)  at the rated 4.5Vdc it draws 400ma,  At 12Vdc, it draws 1.08amps.

**Q: how many amps does it need?**
A: The coil windings run about 7.3 ohms, so at the stated 4.5v operating voltage they would draw 616mA or 0.616 amps.

**Q: What is t he push or pull force in units of N? Is is 0.8N?**
A: No idea... My guess is max 1kg of force

**Q: could this be used to launch something around the size of a skittle or M&M candy?**
A: From an engineering standpoint...It's up to your imagination.
